Kriss Russman – Biography
Kriss Russman’s work with around 40 international orchestras and opera companies includes concerts with the London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Colonne in Paris, Nuremburg Symphony and Augsburg Philharmonic orchestras in Germany, Athens Symphony Orchestra, St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra and the Nordic Chamber Orchestra in Sweden. Opera productions include Tosca with the Hungarian State Opera and Krakòw Opera, Madama Butterfly and Cosi fan tutte with Prague State Opera, Rigoletto with Kiev National Opera and Belgrade National Theatre, La Traviata and I Pagliacci with Latvian National Opera. He has recorded the music of Pēteris Vasks with the Riga Philharmonic for SONY’s RCA Red Seal label. As a composer, his first opera, Happy Birthday, Mr President, was commissioned and premiered by the Rostock Volkstheater in Germany in 2013. He recorded his completion of George Butterworth’s unfinished Orchestral Fantasia, conducting the BBC National Orchestra of Wales for BIS Records, on a CD of Butterworth’s music released in 2016. The disc received a 5-star review in the BBC Music Magazine and reached number one in Britain’s classical music chart, staying in the top ten for four months. Kriss Russman is a graduate of the Royal College of Music in London and Cambridge University where he received a doctorate in music.
